“No film festival would be complete without some harrowing tale about the dangers of drugs, and Rolling, a
documentary style feature about eight Southern California youths caught in the throes of Ecstasy addiction, fits the bill nicely.
Saleebey's camerawork is stylish, and his script is briskly paced and concise … until his characters begin their nightly descent into
chemical delirium. From there, the movie carefully examines the disorienting highs that serve only as prelude to the
inevitable lows.” – San Francisco Examiner
Rolling, Billy Samoa Saleebey's Award-winning drama, is a truthful and entertaining ensemble piece that explores
the use of MDMA. The events occur one fateful (but energetic and emotionally open) evening in the underground Rave scene in
Los Angeles. The societal cross-section includes a medical student, a teenage runaway, a lawyer, a drag queen, a high-school basketball
player, a drug dealer, and a young teacher.
Saleebey coaxes great performances from talented cast, includes documentary interviews with his characters to fracture the fictional
narrative, and utilizes a variety of film and video formats to broaden his stylistic palette. The result is a truly engaging portrait
of the chemical search for human emotional contact. And it honestly addresses both the appeal and the inherent risk of
hallucinogen-enhanced emotional relationships.
